SALT LAKE CITY — The rise of the delta variant of COVID-19 in Utah means health officials want more Utahns to seek out the vaccine.
Here’s everything we know about how and where to find the COVID-19 vaccine in Utah.
How to find a COVID-19 vaccine in Utah
All Utahns over the age of 12 can receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
A good place to start your vaccine search in Utah is the state’s COVID-19 resource website, coronavirus.utah.gov. From there, you can choose whether you prefer to obtain a shot from a local health department, pharmacy, medical care provider or community event.
Underneath the name of a pharmacy or medical provider, click “make an appointment” to schedule a time to receive the vaccine.
The community calendar maintained on the site shows where vaccine clinics may be taking place on a day or at a time that is convenient for you.

Do vaccines work? Busting the myths
According to the Utah Department of Health, 93% of the state’s confirmed COVID-19 cases between May 1 and June 25, or 14,900 out of 15,949, occurred in unvaccinated people.
Out of 1,049 hospitalizations for COVID-19 during that same time frame, state officials say 91.3%, or 958, occurred in unvaccinated people.
74 out of the 77 COVID-19 deaths in Utah during that time frame, or 96%, occurred among unvaccinated Utahns.

While some breakthrough cases have occurred among vaccinated Utah residents, it appears those who are vaccinated are much less likely to suffer severe illness, require hospitalization, or die.
Case counts on the rise again
Part of the concern stems from an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the state over the month of July. On Wednesday, Utah Department of Health officials reported 843 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 430,143 since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
Currently, 350 people require hospitalization in Utah because of COVID-19.
The state reported six more people’s deaths as a result of COVID-19 Wednesday, marking 2,447 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
- Obtain a flu shot.
- Seek out the COVID-19 vaccine.
