Brief standoff in Kaysville results in the death of one person

KAYSVILLE, Utah — A brief standoff Wednesday evening between deputies with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office and an individual, who was the subject of a search warrant had a deadly end.
According to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to execute a search warrant on a 39-year-old man from Fruit Heights, who was not at home at the time the warrant was served. According to Kaysville police, the man had an active first-degree felony warrant for sexual abuse of a minor.
However, one of the deputies saw the individual driving, and attempted a traffic stop. The traffic stop was made on Main Street between 350 South and 550 South.
Police say that as the deputy approached the vehicle, he saw the man holding a gun to his chest. As the deputy went back to his vehicle, the man fired the weapon. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.
Despite it being after school hours, Davis High School was placed on temporary lockdown because the school was adjacent to the situation, according to police.
That section of Main Street was closed for several hours Wednesday night.
