UPDATE: Left Fork Fire burning in Dixie National Forest near Rainbow Point

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Left Fork Fire has spread to over 100 acres in Dixie National Forest, just 6.5 miles west of Rainbow Point. Fire managers from Dixie National Forest’s Powell Ranger District reported the fire around 2 pm on May 9, 2022.

The fire is burning in timber, litter, understory, and logging debris according to the U.S. Forest Service. The agency also reports the cause of the fire is remnant heat from a prescribed fire on April 7, 2022, near the origin of the Left Fork Fire.

Fire managers are asking the public to avoid the area to allow fire resources access. Furthermore, they report that zero percent of the fire has been contained.

There are six engines, an air attack, one type-1 helicopter, and one hand crew currently fighting the Left Fork Fire.
