PROVO, Utah — A barn fire in Provo Sunday night killed two animals. No humans were injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Provo Fire and Rescue Fire Captain Sam Armstrong said crews responded to a call about a barn fire Sunday evening.

Provo Fire Stations 24, 25, and 21 responded to a barn area around 770 N Lakeshore Drive in southwest Provo.

Multiple locks on the barn and a locked gate made it difficult for crews to get in to fight the fire.

Once crews were in, they were able to extinguish the fire.

Armstrong said it looked like the fire was in both the barn structure and a shed.

Wind blowing from north to south pushed the fire, and the shed got the brunt of the damage.

Armstrong added that the fire spread quickly after reaching a pile of organic compost inside the barn.

The fire did not spread to any residential structures.

Two animals, a horse, and a kitten were confirmed to have died in the fire.

Provo Fire and Rescue had investigators on the scene Sunday night to investigate the cause of the fire.
