Pioneer Day holiday weekend was a busy one for Utah Highway Patrol

SALT LAKE CITY — The Pioneer Day holiday weekend was a busy one for the Utah Highway Patrol.

According to statistics that were released Tuesday by the UHP, troopers had 4,225 contacts with motorists statewide from July 22-25.  Troopers placed an emphasis on speed, impaired driving, equipment violations and seat belts.

Busy weekend for Utah Highway Patrol

Over the weekend, the UHP responded to 34 crashes. Two of those crashes resulted in the deaths of two people. Around the state, there were four fatal crashes that resulted in four people losing their lives. 

During the 2021 Pioneer Day weekend, the UHP reports that there was only one life lost to a car crash.

In all, 1,935 motorists were pulled over for speeding. Additionally, 108 drivers were pulled over for traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour. Of those, 24 were pulled over for going more than 105 miles per hour.

The UHP also reports there were 236 seat belt violations and 56 DUI violations. There were 609 vehicles cited for equipment violations and three wrong-way drivers.
