SALT LAKE CITY — Late night Davis County drivers, put a reminder on your phone for Sunday night; The Utah Department of Transportation will close both directions of U.S. 89 between Oak Hills Drive in Layton and 400 North in Fruit Heights.

The agency said the road will be closed Sunday from 9 p.m. to Monday, Sep. 12, at 5 a.m.

To get around the construction work, drivers on U.S. 89 will be detoured onto the frontage road. Drivers will return to U.S. 89 at the Oak Hills Drive and 400 North interchanges. UDOT said that trucks will be diverted to I-15.

During the closure, crews will place large beams that will eventually form the new Crestwood Road bridge over U.S. 89.

U.S. 89 lane restrictions ahead of the closure

UDOT said that prior to the complete closure, U.S. 89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The lane restrictions begin Sunday, Sept. 11 at 7 a.m., and at that time crews will be moving concrete barriers

The weekend work is part of UDOT’s U.S. 89 plan to reconstruct and widen U.S. 89 to six lanes — three in each direction — from Main Street in Farmington to S.R. 193 in Layton.

“We know road closures can be inconvenient, so our goal throughout the project has been to keep all existing lanes open as much as possible while we rebuild and improve the highway,” said Mike Romero, UDOT U.S. 89 project director.

He added, “The Crestwood Road bridge will provide a new east-west route over US-89 to safely connect neighborhoods on both sides and make it easier for residents to get where they want to go.”
