LAYTON, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation announced Tuesday the interchange on US-89 at Antelope Drive in Layton is now open.

The interchange is the fourth and final addition to the US-89 reconstruction project in eastern Davis County.

According to a news release from UDOT, this interchange will help keep traffic flowing safely. It will also provide a new crossing to residential areas on both sides of the highway.

State and local leaders were on hand Tuesday with UDOT officials to officially open the interchange. Those leaders included Utah Senate President Stuart Adams (R-Layton), Rep. Stephen Handy (R-Layton), and Layton Mayor Joy Petro.

Last year, UDOT announced new interchange openings at 400 North in Fruit Heights. Additionally, UDOT also announced last year interchange openings at Oak Hils Drive and Gordon Avenue in Layton.

“Our projects are being built to improve our transportation system for all users. Whether they’re in a car, on a bike, riding a motorcycle, or using a wheelchair,” said Carlos Braceras, executive director for UDOT in a news release. “This new interchange will help everyone in this area get where they want to go more safely and efficiently than they could before.”

According to UDOT, the project on US-89 is currently the second largest project in Utah.

Work on the highway will continue with a new bridge at Nicholls Road in Fruit Heights. A new bridge will also be built at Crestwood Road in Layton.

The US-89 reconstruction project is expected to be completed near the end of 2023.
