Utah Senate Minority Caucus announces 2022 leadership

SALT LAKE CITY — Democrats in the Utah senate have announced their Utah Senate Minority Caucus leadership team for the 65th Utah Legislature.

In their announcement, they said the Senate Minority Caucus is responsible for advancing meaningful policy solutions and giving voice to Utah’s populations who are “sidelined or underrepresented.”

“We are committed to safeguarding foundational rights and liberties; encouraging compassion and equity through good public policy, and fostering a greater quality of life for all,” the Senate Minority Caucus said in a press release.

“We are eager to come together and begin the important work ahead as a new leadership team to support our constituents and the state of Utah.”

Who makes up the Utah Senate Minority Caucus leadership?

Sen. Luz Escamilla, D-District 10

Sen. Escamilla has served in the Utah Legislature since 2009.  She will serve as the Minority Leader.

Sen. Karen Mayne, D-District 12

Mayne began her legislative service in Utah in 2008. She will serve as the Utah Democrats’ Minority Whip.

Senator-elect Jennifer Plumb, D-District 9

Plumb beat incumbent Derek Kitchen in Utah’s 2022 Primary Election and will serve as the Senate Minority Assistant Whip.

Senator-elect Stephanie Pitcher, D-District 14

Pitcher previously served in Utah’s House of Representatives. She will serve as the Senate Minority Caucus Manager.
