LOGAN, Utah — The William A. Burnard warming center in Logan has opened in time for this week’s freezing temperatures. The center offers relief to those experiencing homelessness in the area.

Named after well-known formal social worker Bill Burnard, the warming center has been in the works for about a year and has already served 15 people.

According to the William A. Burnard Warming Center’s website, “Warming centers provide temporary overnight shelter during extremely cold temperatures.”

The center is located in the back of St. John’s Episcopal Church at 85 East 100 North Logan. It’s open nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through January.

From February to March, the center will move to the Cache Valley Veterans Association at 1760 North 200 East Unit 100, North Logan.

The center said the Cache Valley Transit District will work to provide guests with transportation to the center.

The center estimated that 200 Cache County and Box Elder County residents will utilize the resource.

“These people range from single adults to families with children, including working families,” the center’s website said.

Organizers are looking for donations and volunteers to assist with the center.
