WEST VALLEY CITY —  Police are searching for the suspect involved in a stabbing on Tuesday night in West Valley City. The victim is recovering from multiple wounds this morning.

According to West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt, officers responded to a call just before 11 p.m. about a male stabbing and trying to kill another male inside the Redwood Apartments on 4000 South Redwood Road.

When the officers arrived, they said they learned that an unidentified person forced his way into an apartment, wanting money that was owed to him.

“He ended up stabbing the victim several times. Fortunately, none of the injuries are going to be life-threatening at all,” said Merritt.

“The victim was taken away to the hospital, he’s expected to be just fine.”

Police identified the stabbing suspect in West Valley City as a Black male around 40 years old and wearing a red sweater. Witnesses reported that the suspect took off westbound through the apartment complex.

“Although we don’t know the identity of the suspect, and the victim is claiming he doesn’t really know the suspect. They were acquaintances. This was not a random thing,” Merritt said.  “This was a targeted thing. They came specifically to his apartment, looking for money that was owed.

“So whether the victim is being uncooperative or truly does not know the identity of the suspect is kind of to be determined.”
