SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City is preparing to host roughly 125,000 people for the NBA All-Star weekend Feb. 17-19.

City, state and county leaders announced a series of watch parties,  including at the Gallivan Plaza,  which is open to everyone through Sunday.

Businesses, like men’s clothing store Top Shelf  SLC, plan to stay open extra hours as they expect a lot more business than usual.

Store spokesman Billy Ditzig told KSL 5 they are planning to work as many hours on as many days as they can.  Ditzig said he hopes the store has enough merchandise on hand.

Dee Brewer of downtown Alliance says Salt Lake City is also ready. From transportation to hotel rooms to public safety and even an extra pop up liquor store for the extra thirsty patrons.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Salt Lake City to show who we are and what we’re about,” said Brewer.

The downtown Alliance expects visitors to pour more than $140 million into the local economy.
