Significant winter storm coming to Utah this week, travel will be impacted

SALT LAKE CITY — Just when it looked as though Utah had seen the last of the snow for this winter season, another storm is approaching the state. KSL-TV meteorologist Kevin Eubank tells KSL NewsRadio that a significant winter storm is moving into Utah. 

“So, we are going to see an increase in valley rain during the morning on Tuesday,” Eubank said. “It will flip over to snow in the afternoon. Then snow heavy Tuesday night into Wednesday.”

Eubank says the Salt Lake Valley could receive 4 to 8 inches from this storm. He says the benches could receive 6 to 12 inches from this storm, while the mountains in northern Utah could receive 1 to 3 feet of snow.

Eubank says a second storm in will arrive in southern Utah on Thursday and will linger into Friday.

“The southern mountains could end up with the same 2 to 3 feet of snow,” Eubank said. 

Eubank says even St. George will receive snow from this upcoming storm.

How does this significant winter storm compare to others?

“So, this is kind of par for the course for the year 2023.,” Eubank said. “We had epic snow early in the season, we kind of got a bit of a lull end of January into February, we kind of shut things off. But we’re definitely going to end February on a big note.”

Eubank says the incoming storms will be a difference-maker for the month of February.

“In fact, these storms will likely make up for the entire month. So, you’ll get this one storm and it’s going to give you the totals what it would have been had we had a normal month of February.”

Eubank says travel will be impacted by the storm. He says Tuesday morning’s commute should be OK. However, the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes could be rough, according to Eubank.
