SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox is asking for the public to help Utahns experiencing homelessness by donating “a few dollars” to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund.

Gov. Cox, along with other state leaders, spoke at a news conference Thursday. He spoke about the many organizations that benefit from the trust fund.

According to Cox, many Utah organizations from The Road Home to 4th Street Clinic benefit from the fund.

“[These organizations] are doing the daily work to help these incredible human beings that are our neighbors,” Cox said at the news conference.

Along with this, Cox said annually the Trust Fund serves over 10,000 Utahns who access emergency shelter.

“In the past year, we actually had 20 organizations across the state that received funding from the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund,” he said. “Those are 20 organizations that would be worse off if not for the generosity of Utahns.”

He went on to say, next to volunteering, donating is one of the best things a person can do.

“It’s very simple as you’re filling out your tax forms this year, you can support by donating to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund,” he said. “My call to action today is to ask every Utahn who is filing a tax return this year to donate a few dollars.”

Gov. Cox concluded his statement by saying Utahns could donate “a few more (dollars), lots of dollars, all of your dollars if you want.”
