ALTA, Utah — An Alta High School senior could see her artwork on the Google homepage.

Makenna Jolley is the Utah winner of the Doodle for Google contest. The theme of this year’s contest was “I’m so Grateful..”

Jolley’s doodle was “I’m Snow Grateful.” And features a boy making the Google logo out of snow — the o’s are a snowman that’s fallen over.

“I’ve been really grateful for all the snow that Utah has gotten recently just because of the water crisis,” Jolley said.

She found out Wednesday afternoon, May 17, she had won when her high school threw her a surprise celebration.

“I just kind of had to freeze for a second,” Jolley said about walking into a room with friends and Google representatives. “I just started crying because I was so excited.”

Jolley says she’s taken art classes and graphic design classes. In the fall, she’s headed to Utah Valley University.

Google is holding a vote to narrow down the candidates. The top 4 finalists will get a $5,000 scholarship.

The winner’s artwork will be displayed on Google for 24 hours, and that person will take home a $30,000 scholarship. Also, their school will receive $50,000 worth of technology.

You can vote for the finalists from May 18-25 by clicking here.
