76% of Americans believe the nation is heading in the wrong direction, according to new poll

SALT LAKE CITY — According to a new ABCNews/Ipsos poll, 76% of Americans believe the nation is heading in the wrong direction.
Why are so many Americans feeling this way? According to ABC News Correspondent Ike Ejochi, many Americans are not happy with the candidates running to be their representatives. Namely, the presidential candidates.
“That poll … asked potential voters about the presented matchup between President Biden and former President Donald Trump,” he told KSL NewsRadio’s Dave and Dujanovic. “Thirty-three percent of Americans [view] Biden as favorably compared to Trump who’s viewed favorably by only 29% of the country.”
Along with this, he said both Biden and Trump have had a sharp decline in support since each of them were first elected.
With the 2024 presidential election around a year away, Ejochi said there’s still time for Americans to change their minds about the nation heading in the wrong direction.
“A lot can happen in one year,” he said. “Obviously, on the Republican side … President Donald Trump is facing an unbelievable amount of legal exposure.”
Ejochi sites Trump constantly clashing with judges in a $250 million civil case in New York. Additionally, Trump has an upcoming Washington DC federal case in March where the former president faces jail time.
“Gov. Kim Reynolds [is] indicating that she’s going to throw her support to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ahead of the Iowa caucuses, after firmly saying that she would never endorse a candidate,” he said. “So we’re seeing some detractors of who used to be Trump supporters starting to shift their support elsewhere.”
On the other side of things, Ejochi said Democrats are starting to openly disagree with President Biden on certain things.
“Certainly, in terms of the current war between Israel and Hamas,” he said. “We’re starting to see some Democratic lawmakers essentially opposed to different comings out of the Biden administration.”
