SALT LAKE CITY — Paws and Petals is a service project with one goal: helping those who go through pet loss.

The story of Paws and Petals started as a small idea for Utah State University student, Jacelee Poll.

For one of Poll’s classes, she needed to start a project that related to her future goals.

Poll decided to combine her dream of creating floral arrangements with her love for animals. That’s how Paws and Petals was born.

“I’ve had a lot of friends, as well as myself that I’ve had to put pets down and I know how hard it can be,” Poll said.

“I wanted to do something that kind of gave back to my community as well as gave back to people who are having to face that difficult decision.”

Poll’s service project is a non-profit, she said she uses the donations given to her to buy the items needed for her to create floral arrangements.

Those floral arrangements are then given to those who have to euthanize their pets.

The project has worked with the Cache Valley Humane Society, Bridgerland Cache Animal Hospital and the Roy Animal Care clinic.

Currently, the project focuses on Northern Utah, specifically in the Roy and Logan area.

“There have actually been a lot more [euthanasia’s] than I expected,” Poll said.

“Which is really sad, but it’s been good to be able to help people.”

According to Poll, as of March 3 she has delivered around 35 arrangements to people who have dealt with pet euthanasia.

Poll said she hopes the project will continue after she graduates and that it will expand to more veterinarians.

People can donate to the project by going to Poll’s GoFundMe, the projects Instagram, or donating at the Cache Valley Humane Society.
