SALT LAKE CITY — The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials said that Salt Lake City’s bid for the 2034 Olympics should not hinge on the construction of proposed MLB and NHL stadiums. IOC Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi stated that the billion-dollar stadiums should not be conditional upon hosting the games. “At no point in time should these venues be conditional upon being part of the games,” said Dubi.

IOC Future Olympic Games Hosts Director Jacqueline Barrett also said, “We want to make sure at the time of the election. We have a good solution for each sport and each discipline, keeping our minds open for the future.”

Barrett and other officials will visit Salt Lake City next month to look at potential venue conditions. They made it clear that any consideration of new stadiums would occur in the future, not during the current bid evaluation.

Salt Lake City, hosted a successful Olympics in 2001, and many of the venues are still in use, according to Dubi said he was excited about the city’s capabilities.

“Salt Lake City offers it all, starting with the existing venues and the incredible expertise that has been developed over time across all the Olympic sports,” said Dubi

IOC officials emphasized that the city’s Olympic bid should remain separate from the potential venues of the new MLB and NHL stadiums.
