DUCHESNE, Utah — The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the remains of a woman whose skull was found on a fence post 21 years ago.

The sheriff’s office said deputies conducted a search warrant on a property in the northwest area of the county on March 13, 2001. Deputies located a human skull, held on by wire, on top of a fence post that surrounded the property.

“At the time the remains were suspected to possibly be of Native American origin, due to a Native American burial ground being located near the property,” the sheriff’s office said.

An anthropological analysis has since determined the human remains belonged to a “modern Hispanic female” between the ages of 17 and 25. The sheriff’s office estimates the woman went missing between 1981 and 2001.

Using the remains, a composite sketch recreation was done. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who might recognize the woman or have information about her to reach out by emailing sheriff@duchesne.utah.gov or calling the tipline at 435-738-0196.
