Organizers of future tiny home village for homeless hope to add prep school

SALT LAKE CITY — Program directors who are developing a tiny home village for those experiencing homelessness plan to build a new prep school. However, Salt Lake City has yet to sign off on it.
Preston Cochrane, the CEO of The Other Side Village, said the prep school plays a crucial role in its mission.
“[It’s] for individuals who will eventually be transitioning and moving into The Other Side Village,” he said.
If given the green light, the new Other Side Village facility will house up to 56 people in the Central City neighborhood of Salt Lake.
“We’ll be utilizing the meeting house, which we’ve purchased next door … [It] was a former LDS meeting house,” said Cochrane. “That will include classrooms, [a] kitchen, and recreation and programming space.”
Cochrane sees the prep school as the entry into the Other Side Village and shares their progress.
“So we actually have about 21 homes that are done [and] ready to move in,” he said. “By the end of the year, we’ll have 30 homes.”
If all goes to plan they’ll be ready by fall of 2025.
