UTA to make upgrades for airport transportation

SALT LAKE CITY — Begging family members for a ride to the airport could be a thing of the past. UTA is looking at adding two TRAX trains and expanded bus service to the Salt Lake Airport.

UTA Manager of Long Range and Strategic Planning Alex Beim says that with our growing population and now the Olympics on the way, we need more options. The UTA is even looking at FrontRunner service from areas like Ogden and Provo to the airport. But that will be further down the road.

Expanded bus routes are in the works for the near future. Those expanded routes could cover a route from U of U, to downtown Salt Lake, to North Temple and to the airport. Another will serve the West side of town.

Currently, the bus schedule doesn’t help people who are traveling early in morning or late in the evening. The plan is to offer nearly round-the-clock service in coming years.

Most of these projects are in UTA’s five year plan, but should be done by the time we host the Games.
