Fiery accident involving semi truck shuts down Interstate 80 toward Wendover

A semi truck accident that resulted in flames closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 Sunday afternoon, according to Utah Highway Patrol. (UHP)

WENDOVER — A semi truck accident that resulted in flames closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 Sunday afternoon, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
In an X post from the Utah Department of Transportation, the accident happened on Interstate 80 at mile marker 24.
🚨Closure – WB I-80 at MP 24 is closed due to a multi vehicle crash. Expect extended delays.

Cpl. Eddie Wright with UHP said an SUV was traveling westbound when it struck the back of a semi truck pulling a trailer.
Wright said the SUV was stuck under the rear of the trailer and caught on fire.

The driver of the SUV was transported by helicopter for serious injuries, while the semi truck driver was not injured, according to UHP.
Police are expected the westbound lanes to be closed until 8 p.m.
