SALT LAKE CITY — A Farmington man pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering earlier this month, just a week after being indicted.
Timothy Sean Edgar, 44, admitted to siphoning around $1,778,251 from his employer between sometime in 2021 to October 2024.
Court documents refer to the company as “MME,” and a LinkedIn profile for Edgar lists his employer as a small North Salt Lake paper company, My Mind’s Eye. A representative for the company did not respond to requests for comment.
Court documents say Edgar opened a new sales channel “through a popular online marketplace,” accessed the vendor portal, and began redirecting payments to a personal bank account. Edgar would then pay the company back through his credit card, charges say.
As part of the March 17 plea deal, Edgar agreed to pay back all the money, and prosecutors agreed to recommend Edgar be sentenced “25% below the low-end of the sentencing guideline range.”
According to a United States Sentencing Commission report, around 70% of those convicted in 2023 for money laundering had little or no prior criminal history, and 90.5% of them were sentenced to prison, with the average sentence at 71 months. Around 78% of those sentenced received downward assistance, departures and variances, the report shows.
