Hiker airlifted from Elephant Rock trail after experiencing medical episode

BOUNTIFUL — A mother was transported to the hospital Sunday afternoon after having a “medical episode” while hiking the Elephant Rock trail, according to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephanie Dinsmore with the Davis County Sheriff’s said a mother and her daughter were 3 miles into the hike.

Dinsmore said the mother was experiencing a medical episode. She’d been in and out of consciousness.

Around 3 p.m., the daughter hiked to a spot with cell service and called for help.

Davis County Sheriff Search and Rescue responded. Due to their location on the Elephant Rock trail called a helicopter to hoist the mother out, according to Dinsmore.

The mother was dropped off at a nearby church parking lot, while the daughter hiked down with the Search and Rescue team.

The Davis County Sheriff said the mother was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
