SALT LAKE CITY – Firefighters were at a 2-alarm fire at a vacant house in Salt Lake City Sunday morning.
According to the Salt Lake City Fire Department, a house near 900 West and 400 North caught fire. Brandt Hancuff with the Salt Lake City Fire Department said the house was vacant, according to neighbors, but there were many contents inside the house.
At 11:30 a.m., Hancuff said it was still an active fire. Hancuff said they were intentionally letting portions of the structure burn to allow them access to other areas, making smoke continuously visible. Firefighters said they would monitor the burn and estimated it would take three to four hours.
Hancuff said no other structures were impacted by the fire. No injuries were reported, but Hancuff said that due to the heat, firefighters would rotate monitoring the burn to avoid heat exhaustion.
At the time of publication, the cause of the fire was not released by fire officials.
This is a developing story. It may be updated.
