Three homes destroyed by fires in Roy blamed on train brakes

ROY, Utah — Train brakes were blamed for multiple house fires in Roy on Monday, as well as damage to other homes and fields.
Roughly 200 people were evacuated as crews responded to the fires near 4300 South and 2675 West in Roy.

The American Red Cross set up a cooling center inside a meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4524 S. 2525 West in Roy for evacuees.
Several agencies responded to help make quick work of the Roy fires. They reported multiple fires over a stretch of about 1 to 1.5 miles, roughly following the rail lines in the area.
Utah Transit Authority officials said the fire was causing delays of roughly 20-35 minutes for FrontRunner riders in both directions. They put a bus bridge in place to connect riders from the Ogden station to the Clearfield stop, bypassing the Roy station.
