More funding needed for Western wildfires, says Curtis

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. John Curtis, R-Utah, said better forest management polices and organization are needed to deal with the increasing size of blazes each year.
He also referenced climate change, saying Utahns need to be better stewards of our forests, especially while the state is experiencing an exceptional drought.

Many of our massive wildfires cross both public and private lands, which means local and federal agencies are involved trying to fight them. Curtis added that the patchwork of government agencies and landowners affected by fires is not helpful.
Curtis, who co-chairs the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus along with Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Colo., is pressing Congress for more funds to deal with the massive blazes.
