Liz Cheney for voting to impeach President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Now the RNC is considering a similar move targeting both Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh, File)

SALT LAKE CITY — The Republican National Committee voted Friday to approve a formal censure of two Republican representatives as the RNC meets in Salt Lake City.

RNC considers censure of Cheney, Kinzinger

The resolution included both Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill. It marks the first time the RNC has ever censured an incumbent Republican representative, let alone two of them.

The resolution claims the pair engaged in actions as members of the January 6th select committee “not befitting Republican members of Congress.”

And it calls for a cease of “any and all support” from the party.

Politico reports the resolution is a weaker move than an original proposal to oust the two from the House conference.

Cheney responded to the censure. A statement on her website reads, “the leaders of the Republican Party have made themselves willing hostages to a man who admits he tried to overturn a presidential election.”
