UTA is offering free rides to and from vaccine appointments

SALT LAKE CITY — Don’t let lack of transportation stop you from getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is giving anyone scheduled for the shot a free lift to a vaccination site.
In an effort to make the vaccine accessible to all communities, the UTA has waved its fare fees to and from vaccine appointments through June 30, 2021. The free ride covers all UTA modes, including TRAX, FrontRunner, S-Line, bus, Ski Bus, Paratransit, and PC-SLC Connect.
“By providing transportation access to more people for free UTA is helping eliminate barriers for people who may not have other transportation options to get themselves to their vaccination appointments,” Megan Waters, UTA Community Engagement Manager, said in a statement Wednesday.
Riders must show confirmation of a vaccine appointment upon boarding in order for the ride to be free. The confirmation may be printed or shown on a mobile device. The UTA will also accept vaccination slips as proof.
Free fare is only valid on the day of the scheduled appointment. If residents have to get two doses of the vaccine, the fare will be free on the second appointment date as well.
“UTA will be part of getting people vaccinated as we serve the community by getting people to their appointments,” said UTA Trustee Beth Holbrook.
Utahns utilizing Paratransit can schedule rides by calling 801-287-7433. The UTA does ask Paratransit riders to mention they are traveling to a vaccine site and provide confirmation of their appointment. For more information on Paratransit, visit this web page.
