SALT LAKE CITY — It’s been several years since people were lined up outside a retail store waiting for that one special item. However, that happened Friday morning outside of Target Stores.

Julie Folkman was one of the Taylor Swift fans (also known as a Swifty) near the front of the line at Target in West Jordan.  She explained why she was waiting in the freezing temperatures.

“This is how you make memories. Taylor Swift’s book and new album is coming out and we just want to make sure that we have a guarantee to get it,” she said. “So sitting in the cold is what you have to do sometimes.”

She was happy Target employees created a barrier using shopping carts to protect them from the late arrivals who didn’t brave the cold.  Today the book is only available at retail stores but will go online tomorrow.  Folkman doesn’t think many of the 2 million copies will still be available tomorrow.

The book details Swift’s Era’s Tour which has grossed more than a billion dollars. The 256-page hardcover title sells for $39.99 and is selling exclusively at Target.  Julie McKinsey was second in line at the Jordan Landing Target location.

“We got here at 2:30 a.m. In the subfreezing temperatures,” she said.

KSL NewsRadio asked if she would do that for anything else?

“Probably not. No,” McKinsey said. “I would rather stay warm, but for Taylor Swift I’ll do it. Yes.”

McKinsey said says she’s heading to Vancouver, Canada to catch an Eras concert live.

“So very excited for that,” she said. “Canada, never been, but we’re going for Taylor Swift.”

Along with the book Swift is releasing a 35 track anthology album in both vinyl and CD.
