PARK CITY, Utah — The renowned Sundance Film Festival has exciting plans for its 40th-anniversary edition in 2024. A recent announcement by Festival director Eugene Hernandez reveals a tweaked hybrid format for the upcoming event.
Traditionally an evening affair, the festival’s in-person screenings are set to kick off on Jan. 18, 2024, at noon. This differs from starting in the evening hours as in years past.
Hernandez hopes this earlier schedule will encourage attendees to arrive the night before. This will ensure they don’t miss out on any of the festival’s events.
On the other hand, those who prefer to view the independent films from their homes, will notice a slight alteration in that part of the plan this year.
Online screenings have become integral to the festival’s hybrid-response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, online viewings will be accessible for a shorter timeframe.
Viewers can catch the independent films from Jan. 25-28. This will condense the online viewing window by two days compared to previous years.
As the 2024 Sundance Film Festival commemorates its four-decade journey, these adjustments represent a balance between traditional and modern modes of film consumption.
The festival’s pioneering blend of in-person and online experiences promises to bring the magic of independent cinema to an even wider audience.
