7-year-old takes car for ‘joyride,’ Ogden police say

OGDEN — According to the Ogden Police Department, a 7-year-old took a car for a “joyride” on Sunday morning.
The OPD said in a press release that they received a call about a reckless driver near 21st St. and Wall Ave.
Police found out the driver was a 7-year-old boy. Another child was also in the vehicle.
Lt. Vandenburg said the child went “joyriding” from Davis County and made it all the way to South Ogden.
The press release stated that the 7-year-old boy had taken a family vehicle without his parents noticing.
Police said they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but chose not to pursue due to the suspected age of the driver.
The vehicle then hit a curb near 700 40th St., before one child left the vehicle and the other stayed inside, according to the OPD.
Police said they were able to take both children, the 7-year-old boy and his younger sister, to the station.
Police said the vehicle sustained minor exterior damage, but children and bystanders weren’t injured.
The mother of the child came and picked the two up from the police, according to Vandenberg.
“Due to the driver’s age, no charges are being pursued and the identities of the individuals involved will not be released,” the press release stated.
