Utah hiker rescued in California

MONTEREY, Calif, — A missing hiker from Utah was rescued in California by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol.
According to a Facebook post from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the missing hiker was an adult woman.
The woman had stayed the night at the Ragged Point Inn. After she failed to check in, her husband reported her missing.
A California Highway Patrol’s Coastal Division Air Operations Facebook post said that a search from the air was delayed due to fog at the nearby Paso Robles Airport.
Meanwhile, MCSO searchers continued to search nearby roadways. The overdue hiker’s vehicle was found at a turnout near the Kirk Creek Campground at about 1:30 p.m., per the Facebook post.
After weather conditions improved, searchers were able to begin looking from the air from the air. The Facebook post said they focused on shoreline areas.
CHP searchers were able to locate the missing hiker from the air. She was on a rocky beach at around 2:00 p.m. She was rescued by helicopter and flown back to her vehicle, where she reunited with her husband.
The missing hiker told authorities that she had been stranded on the California beach for 25 hours. Her injuries prevented her from climbing back up to the roadway.
She was treated at a nearby hospital for “moderate” injuries. The woman’s identity was not provided.
