HERRIMAN — The city of Herriman made a long-awaited announcement to its residents Thursday: a new Trader Joe’s storefront is coming soon for their neighborhood.
To spill the news, the city took to social media, along with its Mayor Lorin Palmer, posting a cheeky video of the city’s official mascot, Herriman Yeti, snacking away at some Trader Joe’s white cheddar corn puffs (naturally flavored, of course).
Another location is set to open soon in Riverdale, making the new store the state’s seventh. Palmer said it will be nestled into The Commons at Herriman Towne Center.
The city communications manager, Jonathan LaFollette, said the location had been in the works for a few years.
According to him, the city consulted with a commercial development partner to make it happen, and coordinated with Target as an “anchor” for the location.
“I’ve been with the city about eight years or so, and it’s the most frequently wished for among residents — Target and Trader Joe’s,” he said. “So we’re just happy to be able to do something exciting.”
Among the city’s comment section, many celebrated, and some users online and in Herriman community circles said they had been submitting their city to the California-based company for years in hopes they’d finally get a store.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming Utah’s (7th) Trader Joe’s location to Herriman City!” Palmer wrote. “They will be located in The Commons at Herriman Towne Center directly adjacent to CVS Pharmacy! This is a huge get for the city and we are grateful to our staff, development partners, and everyone who helped make this happen! Let’s keep the momentum rolling.”
The building construction had already begun as of the announcement, Palmer said, and doors are expected to open starting in 2026.
Editor’s note: This article corrects a quote that stated the Herriman store would be the sixth location in Utah. It will be the seventh.
