SALT LAKE CITY — As temperatures climb into the triple digits, this is the one time of the year you really don’t want problems with your air conditioning system.
Mike Wilson, of Any Hour Serivces, joined KSL NewsRadio on Monday to explain how a homeowner can make sure their system keeps working properly.
Wilson offers three tips to ensure your maximizing air flow.
First, make sure you have a clean air filter.
“It can cause the system to ice up and work harder than it needs to,” Wilson said.

Secondly, he says to go around and make sure all of the vents are open.
“Because your system is designed to move a certain amount of air out to the house,” Wilson said. “And move it back to the system to condition it. And if you close off registers or you have a dirty filter that really restricts the air flow and it can’t do the job that it was designed to do.”
Thirdly, he says to check the system outside and make sure there are no brushes or shrubs growing around it. Wilson also says if the system has dirt, dust or lawn clippings on it, grab your hose and wash it down.
He says in a typical week his business will receive 200 to 300 calls about air conditioners. And on Monday alone, his company received more than 100 calls.
“When your system is working as hard as it is right now,” Wilson said. “It’s running long. And if there are any signs of distress or age on old parts, this is gonna be the time they give out.”
