SALT LAKE CITY — Many women caring for a new baby experience postpartum depression while dealing with their own physical healing. A Utah company wants to help make that transition easier by offering retreats tailor-made for postpartum moms.
New mothers build their own experiences at Utah Postpartum Retreat. Mothers can choose the services they receive and the length of their stay.
The founder of the company feels that the current system of care isn’t what’s best for women.
“You just have a baby and then six weeks later, that’s when you see your doctor again. And it’s just nonsensical because so much happens in those first few weeks,” said Kylee Alejandre, founder of Utah Postpartum Retreat.
Some services available at the retreats are lactation consultations and visits with mental health professionals.
“Women who have had babies are just so at risk for developing postpartum mood disorders, and I think the biggest reason for that is lack of support,” said Alejandre
There are also healthcare professionals available round-the-clock.
The postpartum retreats vary in price because they are so personalized. Alejandre said that many HSA or other health benefits programs can be applied to the cost of the retreats.
