Utah unemployment rate holds at 3.2%

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah added 31,900 new jobs over the past 12 months.

Utah Department of Workforce Services spokesperson Jared Mendenhall said the state’s unemployment rate held at 3.2%.

He said these numbers take into account a “little bit” of the federal layoffs.

“Between February 15 and March 15, we saw about 245 federal employees file for unemployment insurance. So we are seeing some layoffs in that area.”

Mendenhall said Utah is creating jobs in education, health services, construction, and manufacturing.

“We like to see growth across a lot of sectors. It speaks to the diversity of the economy.”
