OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University has the most high school students taking concurrent enrollment classes among four-year colleges in the country.
Weber State’s VP of Student Access and Success Jessica Oyler says they have over 16-thousand students taking concurrent enrollment classes. But Utah Valley University is right behind them.
“Based on whatever year it is we take turns jumping each other with who has more students enrolled,” Oyler said. “And they’re within a thousand of us.”
State support of concurrent classes at Weber, and elsewhere
Oyler says one thing sets them apart from other universities in the country when it comes to concurrent classes: the support of the state government.
“When you see that we’re number one in the nation, really what sets us apart there is the support from the legislature. The way in which we’re able to offer concurrent enrollment, but really, how we’re subsidized by them to be able to offer concurrent enrollment at five dollars a credit hour.
Oyler says they’re looking to add classes to junior highs and they also want to improve career and technical education or CTE pathways.
