UINTAH COUNTY, Utah — A 19-year-old man died Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 40 in Uintah County.
The Utah Highway Patrol says the crash occurred near milepost 137 at 7:11 a.m. The UHP says a 2017 Nissan Rouge was heading westbound. The 19-year-old victim was the driver of the Nissan Rouge.
A 2018 Jeep Cherokee, with two 17-year-old occupants, was heading eastbound at the same time, according to the UHP.
The UHP says the Nissan passed a vehicle not involved in the crash. It slid out of control and went into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Jeep collided with the Nissan on the passenger side in the number two eastbound lane.
According to the UHP, the roads were slick and covered in snow and ice at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. However, the UHP says the driver passed away later at the hospital from his injuries.
The two individuals in the Jeep were also transported to an area hospital. Both individuals had non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic in both directions was closed for about 10 minutes. The UHP eventually opened a single lane and alternated traffic passed the Uintah County crash scene as the investigation was conducted.
