Salt Lake City Police say suspicious vehicle not a threat to public

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police found there was no threat to the public after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle late Monday afternoon.

Law enforcement personnel, which included a SWAT team and Hazardous Devices Unit, were called to the area of 600 W. 200 South at around 3:10 p.m. Police say a van was parked under the I-15 overpass. A caller to 911 said it had wires coming out of it, according to a police news release.

After a brief investigation, police determined that there was no threat to the public.

We have concluded our initial on-scene investigation and have determined there is no public safety threat.

Traffic should be re-opening soon.

Police say there were several road closures as a result of the suspicious vehicle. However, the roads were reopened shortly after the determination was made that there was no threat to the public. 

The Utah Highway Patrol and Utah Transit Authority Police assisted Salt Lake City authorities in the incident.  

Police say one person was taken into custody in connection to this incident. According to the news release, the individual was cooperative throughout the investigation, and was released once it was determined there was no threat.
