SANDY, Utah — Sandy police officers responded to a near drowning of a 10-month-old Friday.
According to Sgt. Greg Moffitt with the Sandy Police Department, the father of the 10-month-old was bathing the child leading up to the incident. According to Moffitt, the father said he had stepped away from the tub for “a minute or less.”
“My understanding is that the 911 dispatcher was able to give infant CPR instructions to the father while he was on the phone,” Moffitt said.
Following this, Moffitt said, Sandy police and Sandy Fire arrived on the scene and took over CPR.
The baby is now at Primary Children’s Hospital. It was not breathing for a period of time, according to Moffitt. As of 1 p.m. Friday, the baby is in stable condition. According to Moffitt, it is breathing on its own and responding to pain.
Moffitt said there are no signs of abuse or neglect.
