SAINT GEORGE, Utah — The Saint George Police Department announced on Facebook that a man died in an auto-pedestrian crash. The incident happened at 500 N. Bluff Friday evening.
This marks the second fatality this week resulting from an auto-pedestrian collision at this particular location in St. George.
The police say that the pedestrian involved in this incident was the brother of the female pedestrian who tragically lost her life in an auto-pedestrian crash. Coincidentally, that incident happened at the same spot just last Wednesday, November 1st.
At approximately 8:47 p.m., the SGPD Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
SGPD Statements say that witness reports indicate the vehicle ran a red light and hit the man as he was trying to cross Bluff with the walk sign on.
SGPD also stated that two drug recognition experts saw indications of impairment from the driver. Additionally, police also stated that initial drug tests showed that the driver was under the influence of cocaine.
In their Facebook post, the authorities said that the driver, Brianna Waters, was ultimately arrested and booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility. She was placed under six charges, including negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine)
We offer our condolences to the families affected by these tragic incidents. Both cases are still under investigation.
