SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating what they call a suspicious incident this morning.

A hospital called Salt Lake City Police Department late Thursday night requesting a welfare check after a person was brought in with critical head injuries.

According to SLCPD Public Information Officer, Brent Weisberg, the call came in around 11:45 p.m. upon arrival of a patient with some suspicious circumstances to the injury.

Weisberg said officers are searching a residence in the area of 700 East and Prince Ave.

At 8:15 a.m. the SLCPD said its SWAT team had executed a search warrant as part of the investigation.

“We are treating this as a suspicious circumstance, because we don’t know fully how these injuries happened,” said Weisberg.

“Based on the information we have so far, we do believe it is suspicious enough that we have called out our detectives to begin an investigation.”

Weisberg stated that medical staff told authorities that the type of injury doesn’t occur naturally.

“We have asked that our detectives come out, and our patrol officers right now are in the very early stages obviously of securing the residence, and determining if someone involved is here at this residence,” said Weisberg.

Weisberg said there doesn’t appear to be a threat to the community. SLCPD tweeted there are road closures related to the incident.

Police are asking neighbors that know anything about the residence to call the SLCPD. This is a developing story and will be updated.
