Taylorsville crash injures 7, driver bites rescuing UHP trooper

SALT LAKE CITY — A crash in Taylorsville on Sunday injured seven people, including a Utah Highway Patrol officer who was bitten by a driver they were rescuing.
The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. near 2550 West 4700 South when a white Cadillac heading west on 4700 South ran a red light near the southbound I-215 on-ramp. According to Sgt. Ryan Carver with the Taylorsville Police Department, a Dodge pickup carrying five people, hit the Cadillac.
Due to high speeds, both vehicles cleared the intersection and came to rest on the rocks near the ramp. The Cadillac’s driver, a younger male, was knocked unconscious as the vehicle caught fire, according to Carver.
As police tried to rescue the driver from the burning car, he became combative and bit two troopers. Carver said the driver may have been intoxicated.
One trooper drove himself to the hospital with a more serious bite, while the other sustained only superficial injuries.
All those involved in the accident were taken to the hospital.
