ST. ANTHONY, Idaho — An Idaho District Judge ruled Thursday that the murder trial for Lori Vallow Daybell will be held with her husband’s, Chad Daybell. The trial will begin in early 2023.

Judge Steven Boyce, in a multi-page court ruling, sided with the prosecution’s request to change Vallow Daybell’s trial from October 2022 to Jan. 9, 2023.

Recently, the prosecution had argued in court that it would be a better use of money to hold one trial, as it could last up to two and a half months. The prosecution said that the witnesses and evidence in both cases are the same.

“The trial itself has been set for duration of 10 weeks, which further confirms that scope of evidence the State intends to introduce,” Boyce wrote in his ruling.

With the trial now set to begin in January, Vallow Daybell’s defense team will have additional time to prepare.

“This is death penalty case,” Boyce further wrote in his ruling. “The discovery volume is extraordinary. Defendant’s defense team has only recently been fully assembled and has expressed concerns with the ability to be fully prepared to defend their client in October.”

East Idaho News reports that the attorney who had previously represented Vallow Daybell was removed from the case in December 2021.

Both Vallow Daybell and her husband are facing several charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The two face charges in connection to the deaths of her children Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Additionally, they face charges related to the death of his first wife, Tammy Daybell.
