Ballot boxes overflow in Salt Lake County

SALT LAKE CITY — Some Salt Lake County voters reported full ballot boxes on Monday morning. 

Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman confirmed the reports. Earlier on Monday, full ballot boxes were seen in Herriman and Taylorsville.

Chapman said they’ve already been unloaded and are increasing pickup efforts throughout the day. 

“I have officers going out multiple times today, and tomorrow of course, to make sure that we are able to collect those. And start processing them so that they are included in our election night reports,” said Chapman.

Chapman added that in some cases the boxes weren’t full it was user error. 

According to Chapman, not all of the ballots were being fully pushed into the box. She is urging voters to make sure their ballot isn’t sticking out. 

“A little push will go a long way,” said Chapman.

Chapman also asks if the ballot box you go to is full, please alert the Salt Lake County Clerk’s office know so they can empty it. 

Additionally, Saratoga Springs is also seeing their boxes get a lot of use. City officials said they’re seeing lines at their ballot boxes. They have asked people to hold off on the selfies with the drop box and be respectful of others waiting in line.
