Poll finds that voter preference reflects Utahn economic worry

SALT LAKE CITY — As Utah heads toward the primary election, results of a recent poll reflect Utahn economic worry.
According to a poll from the Deseret News and Hinckley Institute of Politics, 48% of Uthans believe their personal financial situation is currently getting worse. Only 19% feel that it’s improving.
In comparison, a national survey conducted by the Economist/YouGov found that 73% of respondents regard the economy as just fair or poor.
KSL at Night’s Greg Skordas said that he believes that Utahn economic worry benefits Republican candidates.
“That would tend to weigh heavily in favor of Republicans getting a boost from those top issues,” said Skordas.
KSL at Night’s Leah Murray said that economic outlook varies by the presidential candidate that someone supports.
“If you are a Trump voter you are saying it’s on the wrong track. Eighty-seven percent of you have to right? Because if you thought the country was doing well you are probably fine with Joe Biden,” said Murray.
The latest data on the economy skew according to the presidential preference polls, in Utah which show 49% of Utahns plan to support Trump, while 20% back Biden.
