TAYLORSVILLE — Police have arrested the person who may have been ripping out and stealing AC units after taking the copper wire out of them.
Taylorsville Police told KSL they were responding to a burglary alarm in the area of 6200 South and Redwood Road around 3:30 a.m.
Police said they found a suspect stealing copper out of AC units and took them into custody.
Police found the suspect in the same area someone ripped an AC unit at the Midvalley Animal Clinic. They ripped it right out of the ground sometime Monday night, leaving the clinic improvising to try and keep their staff, customers, and their pets cool. Police confirmed this happened to someone else in the area as well.
KSL TV reported that the clinic did get a new unit installed Wednesday. It will cost around $6,000 to replace it.
One clinic employee said the thief would, at best, get maybe $60 for the stolen copper.
In Utah, theft of copper can result in third-degree felony charges.
