SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. John Curtis, R-UT, said that on a scale of one to ten, he’s a “nine” about running for U.S. Senate.

KSL NewsRadio asked Curtis to rate his level of seriousness on the potential run during an interview on Thursday.

“It’s up there in the nine-plus region,” he said, though he noted it was tough to put a number to it. “I’m not taking this lightly,” he said.

Curtis said he’s currently weighing what’s best for him, the state, his staff, and Utah’s 3rd Congressional District.

“I don’t want to do this if it’s not best for the state … and so what does John Curtis bring to the table?  And … about taking the work I’ve done in the House to a larger platform … I’ve got to think about that,” he said.

Curtis also touted some recent rankings he’s received. He’s earned nods for constituent outreach and for being the ninth most effective member of Congress.

“I’d like to do that at a statewide level,” he said.

Finally, Curtis said one thing is holding him back from running. He admits he’s in his comfort zone being a member of the House.

“My state director asked me [what would keep me from running] and my answer wass, ‘it’s hard.’ And as I was speaking those words I knew to myself how silly that was and if that’s the only reason that’s keeping me from doing it, that’s not a good reason not to do it.”
