PAGE, AZ — Officials with Glen Canyon National Recreation Area want to salvage wrecks in Lake Powell.  And if you happened to see something in the lake when the water was low, you might be able to help.

Park officials are reaching out to the public for information on large salvage debris seen in the lake. They want to know where vessels have sunk and been exposed during low water levels.

They’re also interested in other sizable debris deposits.

In a press release, park officials said they’ve created an e-mail inbox where visitors can share what they know or saw.

Park staff will monitor the inbox. They said they’re interested in descriptions of the debris, as well as the physical location including GPS coordinates. And any available photos are great, too.

The staff will add the data to existing park records. It will then be used to help determine how much money will be needed for future cleanup projects.

Although the park will start analyzing the data in April 2024, there is no set end date for the data collection effort. Park officials hope this will become a going concern.
