Utah Red Cross volunteers lend a hand as Hurricane Beryl barrels into Texas

SALT LAKE CITY — As Hurricane Beryl came ashore Monday in Texas, four trained disaster relief volunteers from the Red Cross of Utah were on the ground ready to assist.
Benjamin Donner is the executive director of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Utah Chapter. He said they’ll be working directly with those impacted by Hurricane Beryl.
“Our volunteers will man the shelters, the safe places for individuals to go that may have been displaced by their home or merely to get out of that hurricane’s path,” he said.
Hurricane Beryl knocks out power
The Category 1 hurricane cut power to 3 million Texans and killed three people. As Beryl came ashore, officials downgraded it to a tropical storm.
The Red Cross of Utah said they strategically position teams and relief supplies to aid those in the hurricane’s path.
The Utah Red Cross said the volunteer team included Provo’s Michael Fitt, Cedar City’s Michael Kartchner, and Park City’s Joseph and Lori DeMarco.
